As we age, human body cells continue to divide and replicate, causing the telomeres at the ends of chromosomes within the cells to gradually shorten. This leads to an accumulation of aged cells in the body, causing us to grow older slowly.
Is there any way to slow down the aging process? According to media reports, researchers in Israel recently unveiled a new study finding that hyperbaric oxygen therapy may prevent the shortening of telomeres—the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes—in blood cells of healthy older adults, thereby reducing the accumulation of aged cells in the body and potentially extending human lifespan.
This is a therapeutic approach in which 100% pure oxygen is inhaled under conditions of increased atmospheric pressure. The underlying principle of this treatment is that hyperbaric oxygen significantly increases the amount of oxygen dissolved in the blood, thereby ensuring efficient oxygen diffusion throughout the body’s tissues. In this Israeli study, hyperbaric oxygen dissolved in the blood was used as an experimental tool. By observing whether the telomeres at the ends of chromosomes within blood cells have shortened and by tracking the accumulation of senescent cells in the body, the researchers aimed to determine whether hyperbaric oxygen has anti-aging and life-prolonging effects.
During their 3-month trial, a total of 60 hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions were administered to 35 healthy individuals aged 64 and older. Researchers collected blood samples from the participants at three time points: before the trial began, at the end of the first month and the second month of the trial, and two weeks after the trial concluded. Throughout the study, the participants made no changes whatsoever to their lifestyle, diet, or medication regimen. The final results showed that, compared to baseline levels, the telomeres at the ends of chromosomes in the participants’ blood cells had lengthened by 20% to 38%, while the proportion of senescent cells within the entire cell population had decreased by 11% to 37%. These two key indicators suggest that the blood cells of these elderly participants indeed became younger than their chronological age.
Although the experiment lacks broad representativeness, it has confirmed that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can affect telomere length at the ends of chromosomes within blood cells, thereby opening the door for further research into the effects of hyperbaric oxygen on cellular aging and for deeper exploration of its potential to halt the aging process.

When the body is in a state of hypoxia, the production of energy (ATP) becomes insufficient, thereby impairing the body's ability to use ATP to carry out normal physiological activities and leading to a series of symptoms characterized by diminished or disrupted physiological functions. This state of disruption is precisely the physiological condition associated with subhealth. Oxygen is an essential substance in the body’s metabolic processes, and hypoxia serves as the underlying basis for many diseases. When the body is in a state of hypoxia, ATP production is impaired, which in turn hinders the body’s ability to utilize ATP for normal physiological activities and results in a cascade of symptoms involving impaired or disordered physiological functions.
Experimental studies have found that hypoxia reduces ATP synthesis and causes abnormalities in cellular acid-base metabolism, cellular calcium channels, and lysosomal release. Hypoxia also increases blood viscosity in subhealthy individuals; this increase in blood viscosity directly affects blood flow velocity and impairs hemoglobin’s ability to transport oxygen.
There is an inherent link between chronic hypoxia and aging—indeed, the two can be seen as mutually causal. Chronic hypoxia accelerates our aging process, while aging itself can also lead to chronic hypoxia in the body. Although the onset of chronic hypoxia may vary in speed from person to person, everyone will eventually have to face it. In 1969, foreign scholars found that for every additional year of age, the arterial partial pressure of oxygen in elderly individuals decreases by an average of 3 millimeters of mercury. In other words, as age increases, the partial pressure of oxygen gradually declines, leading to hypoxia—a phenomenon known as the "hypoxic aging theory."
Now, let’s take a look at how the partial pressure of oxygen in the blood changes with age: For those aged 20–29, the partial pressure of oxygen ranges from 84 to 104 mmHg; for those aged 30–39, it ranges from 81 to 101 mmHg; for those aged 40–49, it ranges from 78 to 99 mmHg; for those aged 50–59, it ranges from 74 to 94 mmHg; and for those aged 60–69, it ranges from 71 to 91 mmHg.
Chronic hypoxia can accelerate the aging of various organs, hasten the aging process, and contribute to the development of numerous chronic diseases. As people age, elderly individuals often experience vascular hardening, declining lung function, increased blood viscosity, and slower blood flow, frequently leading to episodes of physical exertion-induced hypoxia. Oxygen plays a crucial role in promoting metabolism and enhancing organ function. Regular hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which involves timely oxygen supplementation, can directly compensate for the insufficient oxygen supply caused by declining physiological functions, thereby maintaining the normal functioning of all body organs, fostering both physical and mental well-being, slowing down the aging process, boosting immune function, and preventing disease.

The micro-hyperbaric oxygen chamber is a scientific innovation in the modern healthcare industry. Its principle of operation lies in increasing the internal air pressure within a small, enclosed, and safe space while simultaneously introducing high-concentration oxygen from the outside (with an oxygen concentration reaching over 90%). This significantly boosts the amount of dissolved oxygen in the bloodstream, thereby improving and eliminating hypoxia in various human organs. The Huaxin micro-hyperbaric health oxygen chamber markedly enhances metabolic functions, microcirculation, and cellular repair capabilities in elderly individuals, boosting their immune system and slowing down the aging process.
