The Development of the Pressure Vessel Industry

A favorable industrial policy environment will facilitate the industry’s sustained development in the future.

 

　　2) The upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry is an indispensable step on China’s path to becoming a manufacturing powerhouse. The technological level and strength of the equipment manufacturing industry directly influence and determine the competitiveness of its downstream industries and products, serving as a crucial indicator of a nation’s overall national strength. Looking at all the world’s industrial powerhouses, none has failed to be a strong player in equipment manufacturing. Benefiting from the sustained rapid development of China’s national economy and the country’s vigorous support, China’s transformation from a large manufacturing country into a manufacturing powerhouse has become an inevitable trend. Against the backdrop of China’s industrial equipment upgrade, key application areas for metallic pressure vessels—such as clean energy applications, new-energy manufacturing, and seawater desalination equipment manufacturing—have been included in both the “Guidelines for Priority Areas of High-Tech Industrialization Development (2007)” and the “Guidance Catalog for Industrial Structure Adjustment (2005 Edition).” The upgrading and replacement of downstream industries will undoubtedly bring tremendous development opportunities and promising market prospects to the metallic pressure vessel manufacturing sector.

 

　　3) The development focus of the equipment manufacturing industry is gradually shifting toward the Asia-Pacific region.

 

　　Influenced by economic globalization and the continuous rise in labor costs, the global manufacturing hub is gradually shifting toward the Asia-Pacific region. The ASME certification from the United States, as the most widely accepted and applied pressure vessel standard internationally, is increasingly being studied and promoted by Chinese enterprises. According to statistics from the China National Chemical Equipment Association, in 2007, China had 260 ASME-certified manufacturers, representing a 33% increase over the previous year. By June 2009, this number had risen to 390, placing China second globally. Among these, Jiangsu Province had the largest number of certified companies, totaling 126. After years of development, China’s manufacturing sector has built up considerable scale and strength, creating a realistic possibility for foreign companies to shift their equipment manufacturing operations to China.
